Easy SEO Tips for Bloggers

First of all, let me start this post by saying that I’m in no way an expert on SEO. In fact, until about six months ago I didn’t have the slightest clue about search engine optimization, so you could definitely call me a novice. That said, over the past few months I have managed to build up my blog views quite a bit, and I think it’s all down to getting to know a bit of SEO. So here we go, my easy SEO tips for bloggers:

Get a SEO Plugin

My first tip, especially if you’re a WordPress user, is to get yourself  a SEO plugin. They’re usually free, and they do most of the work for you. I use Yoast SEO, that makes search engine optimization so easy. You simply put in a focus keyword, and it will give you a SEO score. Then it will tell you a bunch of simple ways to improve the SEO of your post. Easy peasy.

Name Your Photos

When it comes to SEO, your photos are pretty important. From what I gather, Google mainly finds images based on file name and image alt-tag. So if all your photos are named something like IMG30927, it’s unlikely that they’ll come up in searches. Also, when people pin an image from your site on to Pinterest wouldn’t you rather it said something that actually describes the photo?

Fill In Image Alt-Tags

When you click on a photo in your post editor, and then click edit, it should show you a field called Image Alt-Tag or Alternative Text. Like mentioned in the previous point, this is the other thing Google uses to find your images. So you’ll want to fill in the image alt tags using relevant keywords, or the title of the post. For example, in this post all of my image alt-tags read “Easy SEO Tips for Bloggers”.

Google Your Keywords

So we all know that we should use keywords in our posts for them to pop up on Google. However, one of the best tips that I’ve found is to make sure that you also google your keywords. By googling you’ll be able to see what kind of pages come up by searching for the keyword, and see if your post would fit in. Many times the keyword that I thought to be most obvious, has actually brought up search results that aren’t even close to what my blog post is about.
