With my recent love affair with all things luxury beauty, there was still one brand that I had yet to try. Despite oohing and ahhing over the gorgeous Dior makeup packaging on a regular basis, I hadn’t dared to make the splurge yet. But, when in Paris… I wanted to get a good selection of a few of their best selling bits as my introduction to Dior makeup, so I picked up a couple of the cult classics. And with pink being one of this spring’s biggest trends, I kept all of my picks blush toned.
AN INTRODUCTION TO DIOR MAKEUP
The Dior Nude BB cream is claimedly one of the best complexion perfectors out there. So as someone with a serious love for lightweight bases, I’d been wanting to try it for some time. It has a light texture that just melts into the skin, leaving a finish that’s really natural and glowy. For a BB cream it also has a surprising amount of coverage. The only downside is that it only comes in three shades, none of which were quite the perfect match for my skin. But it’s sheer enough to work anyway, and it has quickly become a daily staple in my makeup routine.
If there’s one makeup item that I’ve recently gotten obsessed with, it’s highlighter. I probably have way more than I need in my collection already, but I just couldn’t resist this beauty. The metallic silver packaging is to die for, and the compact actually comes in a little velvet pouch with it’s own kabuki. The shade is a beautiful rosy blush, that looks quite pink in the pan but turns more of a cool-toned champagne on the skin. It’s also not like any other highlighter that I own. It gives a beautiful subtle highlight, that looks glowy but still natural. If you’re someone who loves the disco ball look, then this isn’t for you. But for a soft candlelit glow, it’s just perfect.
I find nail polishes and lip products to be a great way to start getting to know a brand, since they’re often less of a splurge than powders or foundation. I originally went in looking for a nude, but ended up falling head over heels for this pink polish. It’s a lovely light cool-toned pink, that somehow works perfectly with my skin tone. The brush on these polishes is just brilliant, since it’s wide enough that you can do all your nails with just one swipe. However, the wear time is unfortunately less than stellar, as it starts to chip on me after only a couple of days.
The iconic Lip Glow was the first thing on my Dior makeup wish list, since I’ve been hearing the praises for this little tube for years. When first trying it on at the store, I felt like it didn’t really do much for my lips. But after giving it a proper test for the past few weeks, it now permanently lives inside my handbag. It’s a curious product, since it’s an almost colourless lip balm that transforms into a plushy pink on your lips. The formula reacts to the chemistry of your lips, so the shade will look different on everyone. It’s quite literally your lips but better. It feels so light it’s like you’re wearing nothing on your lips, and I love the subtle minty scent.
