The New No. 5 | Chanel N°5 L’Eau

I’ve always wanted to be the kind of girl who wears classic Chanel N°5. To me that’s just the epitome of chic and sophisticated. Unfortunately I never did quite like the scent, and found it to be too heavy and mature for my taste. But on my visit to the Rue Cambon store last month, they slipped a sample of the new Chanel N°5 L’Eau into my bag. I spritzed it on before the loveliest dinner date in Paris, and fell so head over heels for it that I had to go back the next day to get the full bottle.

First of all, let’s talk about that bottle. I had seen the ads for the new Chanel N°5 L’Eau, and immediately fallen for the simplicity of the bottle. The scent comes in a crystal clear glass packaging with a simple white & black label, and it’s basically a minimalist dream.

The scent itself  is a lighter, more modern version of the classic No. 5. It’s fresh, simple and sophisticated. The top notes are fresh and zesty citrus fruit lemon and orange, followed by a floral heart of rose and jasmine with just a hint of ylang ylang. After some time on the skin the scent transforms to bring out the soft and powdery base notes of warm woody cedar and cottony white musk. I didn’t love it on the first sniff, but give it some time on the skin and I guarantee you can’t live without it either.

I don’t think I’ve ever described a scent as sexy before, but for me this is definitely it. It literally smells so good that every time I wear it I feel like taking myself out on a date. At first I thought it was a bit too heavy for an everyday fragrance, and used to save it for only wearing on nights out. But lately I’ve found myself spritzing it on more and more often. And besides, you should wear your best scent every day and not just on special occasions, right?
