Summer is here! Say hello to beach days in bikinis, berries and bronzed skin. And as usual on the blog, it’s time for a summer beauty edit. This year summer hasn’t really brought any changes to my makeup routine, outside from slapping on a bit more bronzer. But I have made quite a few changes to my skincare. From wearing pastel polish and smelling like a cocktail, to switching thick creams for lighter lotions. Here are the changes I’m making to my summer beauty routine:
THE SUMMER BEAUTY EDIT
Perhaps the most obvious summer beauty change is piling on the SPF. This year I’ve fully revamped the sun care section of my beauty stash with the Lierac Sunissime range. I’ll be doing a full post on these pretties later on the week, but for now I’ll just say I’m smitten. The face fluid is light and glowy, while protecting your skin from both UVA & UVB rays. The protective body lotion is easy to apply, won’t leave you sticky and has a lovely light scent mixing florals with coconut.
DON’T FORGET TO SCRUB
I don’t know about you, but all the SPF and sweating of summer can easily make my skin clog up. So I’ve been taking extra care to exfoliate regularly. For fast and easy exfoliating I love the Pixi Glow Peel Pads, that get rid off dead skin cells with just the swipe of a cotton pad. They’re also gentle enough to be used even on the daily. For a more thorough scrub I’ve been using the Lancome Exfoliance Confort cream, that’s packed with tiny exfoliating particles for a baby smooth skin.
WATER BASED SKINCARE
One of the changes that I make to my beauty routine every summer is switching my skincare to lighter, water based, products. Instead of a traditional day cream I’ll opt for a liquid moisturizer. This year’s choice is the new L’Oréal Hydra Genius, that’s packed with hydrating aloe water. I’ve also switched my rich night cream for the Sunday Riley Tidal, a brightening water cream packed with hyaluronic acid and papaya enzymes.
I got hooked on Lancome’s Energie de Vie range last year (I just adore the fresh scent!), and this year they’ve added two new things to the collection. The cooling eye gel helps to illuminate and eliminate signs of tiredness, while the exfoliating mask moisturizes and purifies the skin.
One of my favourite summer beauty changes is switching warm heavy fragrances to summery scents. My summer fragrance of choice this year is the fresh & floral Roses de Chloé.
The Body Shop always has amazing summer scents in their body care, and this year they’ve brought back both the Virgin Mojito range and the Pinita Colada range. (Who wouldn’t want to smell like a delicious cocktail?). My favourite new discovery is the Dove body wash in Pistachio Cream and Magnolia, that not only makes my skin silky soft, but also smells exactly like pistachio gelato.
I basically had to physically restrain myself from jumping with joy when I saw Essie’s new summer collection. Pastels inspired by Parisian pastries? Oui, s’il vous plait! I could’ve happily taken home most of the collection, but limited myself to just two shades. I’ve been hunting for the perfect pastel blue polish for years, and Blue-La-La is definitely it. Baguette Me Not is a slightly purple hued pastel pink, with one of my favourite Essie names ever.
